Hammett and Chandler Look-alikes

If you're like me, you've been asking yourself what current-day celebrities do Dashiell Hammett and Raymond Chandler look like? Well, MyHeritage's new face recognition software gives us the opportunity to answer just that question.

Here are the results for Hammett:

The Nicholas Cage connection is interesting since Cage is Francis Ford Coppola's nephew and Coppola produced the 1982 movie Hammett based on Joe Gore's excellent novel of the same title. And, although it's not clear who should be more offended by the comparison, Sharon Stone did live in San Francisco for a number of years while she was married to San Francisco Chronicle Executive Editor Phil Bronstein. (Did someone say Komodo Dragon?)

Here's what the software came up with for Chandler:

Hmm ... we have some pretty big Hollywood leading men with Chase, Law, Costner, Gere, and Hurt, although Chandler had a character in The Little Sister say, "There was a time when actors went in at the back door. Most of them still should," so perhaps he wouldn't be that flattered. Certainly the Cheney connection is not flattering. Finally, it's interesting that Chandler's look-alikes include two writers: Asimov and Soderbergh (a screenwriter/producer).

And, yes, I couldn't resist putting my own pic through the software.

I found that the results varied widely depending on what photo I used (although Sam Neil was a frequent hit with all photos). I used this "big hair" one to get the connection with Soderbergh (who ironically doesn't have much hair in this shot) so that I could claim a one degree of seperation in terms of looks with Chandler.

And to get a connection with a science fiction writer like Chandler had with Asimov, I used my current book jacket photo:

Who's the sci-fi writer in the group? Why L. Ron Hubbard, of course.
